Forehand technique (also called pushing) is traveling in the same direction the torch is pointed. Backhand technique (also called pulling) is traveling in the opposite direction the torch is pointed. Forehand should be used on base metals that are 1/8" thick or thinner, while backhand should be used for base metals thicker than 1/8".
